The Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas (CPRIT), a state agency dedicated to advancing cancer research and prevention, awarded $89 million across 22 grants. Dallas-based institutions received significant funding, including a $4 million Rising Star Scholar Award to UT Southwestern for recruiting cardio-oncology expert Dr. Daniel Addison. Additionally, CPRIT announced new staff additions, enhancing its ability to foster innovative cancer research and prevention. These grants mark CPRIT’s ongoing commitment to combating cancer statewide through recruitment, prevention, and treatment development.
Medical City Fort Worth has achieved Magnet designation for the fourth time, recognizing nursing excellence by the American Nurses Credentialing Center. “Magnet recognition affirms our commitment to being the destination of choice for healthcare excellence,” says John Hoover, Medical City Fort Worth CEO. The Meadows Mental Health Policy Institute, in collaboration with West Health and Northwestern Medicine, launched the Northwestern Medicine West Health Accelerator to integrate mental health care into primary care settings. Backed by a $1.9 million grant from West Health, the initiative will implement the Collaborative Care Model (CoCM), improving access to early mental health treatment for over 350,000 Northwestern Medicine patients. “This proven approach ensures individuals receive treatment early and achieve better outcomes,” said Andy Keller, president and CEO of the Meadows Institute.
Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Dallas has earned accreditation as a Center of Excellence in Robotic Surgery from the Surgical Review Corporation (SRC). Led by Dr. Quanita Crable, the Women’s Robotic Surgery program offers advanced procedures, including hysterectomy, myomectomy, and complex endometriosis resection. “This accreditation reflects our commitment to providing the highest standard of care,” said Dr. Crable.
