Follow along as she shops local for the season.

While I’m never especially sad to see summer go, I’m more ready than ever this year to welcome the change of season. This summer saw a lot of hardships and heartbreak—like the loss of architect Ron Wommack in June and of D ’s own Zac Crain in July. While the ushering in of a new season doesn’t cure all the ills suffered in the one before, there is still something revitalizing about a fresh start. The change of temperatures, schedules, and routines gives us a chance to switch up decor (time to pack away the linen bedsheets!), adopt new habits, and try new recipes. Fall captures so many of my favorite things: The flavors, the scents. The crisper air, the softer light. The prevalence of friends and loved ones who’ve returned after dispersing to various far-off destinations. Maybe that’s what I love most about this season: Whereas summer is about jetting off, fall is about coming home. There’s no better time to make your space a warm, welcoming respite that you’ll be happy to retreat to at the end of a long day—or a long season.

Until winter,

Travelogue

Where I’ve been, what I’ve seen, and the things I’m excited about this fall:

1. From the windows to the wall.

Known for their practically indestructible textiles and rugs, Dallas design-industry darling Perennials has launched a wallcoverings line! The collection of 17 styles combines timeless looks with top-notch performance.

2. Ralph’s new digs.

If you haven’t visited Ralph Lauren Home’s Cole Avenue storefront, now is the perfect time to remedy that—not only because the plush plaids and luxe wools scream fall, but also so you can pick up a bag of Ralph’s Coffee. Their rich roasts are an excellent way to start a cool morning.

3. Split personality.

No one would ever accuse me of being frilly, but lately I’ve  found myself in what I’ll describe as my grandma era. In hunting for new tabletop pieces for fall, I’ve even been drawn to (gasp!) floral motifs, but I couldn’t quite commit to ladylike china. These nifty Seletti dishes at Scout let me branch out without abandoning my modernity.

4. Stock the larder.

I recently popped into Oak Cliff’s new Outpost Fine Goods. I loved the Western vibes, but my favorite part was the dry-goods section. This time of year, impromptu gatherings seem to pop up more frequently. Having a selection of savory snacks on hand makes hosting easier.

5. Let’s be honest.

After 17 years on Henderson, Favor the Kind has decamped for Greenville Avenue, where its new location is bigger and—dare I say?—better. I’m digging the addition of brother brand Earnest John Honest Goods, which sells sustainable, refillable home and body products.

6. Get offline.

You already know H&M for clothes, but have you shopped their selection of stylish, affordable home decor? It’s never been easier, thanks to their new location in the Galleria.

7. Take up the mantel.

If you, like me, like to have a constant fire burning as soon as the weather drops below 60, it may be time to upgrade your fireplace surround. The ARCANA collection of mantels designed by Eddie Maestri set a sophisticated stage for cozy fireside evenings.

8. More to love.

Though you might miss popping into Madison the next time you’re lunching at Highland Park Village, their new space in the Design District has so much more to offer than its last. In addition to gifts and tabletop pieces, they also have furniture, antiques, and—my favorite—an expanded offering of monogrammable items available to be personalized in-house.
