If you’re a subscriber, you have our 50th anniversary issue in your mailbox. Or in your home. Whatever, check your mail. Page 116 contains the transcript of a chat between musicians Tim DeLaughter, of Tripping Daisy and the Polyphonic Spree, and Cameron McCloud, the frontman for the hip-hop collective Cure for Paranoia.
The two men, separated in age by two-plus decades, compare Deep Ellum in the 1980s to the neighborhood today, which really tells the story of how the local music scene has changed. It’s interesting stuff. (And a bit depressing, frankly.) It’ll be a few weeks before it’s online, so subscribe here.
Or you can mark Friday, September 27 on your calendar. We’re partnering with the Kessler Theater to host Cure for Paranoia, We Them Grays, Curl, and Scuttino, four of the city’s most exciting local acts. Cure were recently finalists for NPR’s Tiny Desk concert competition and are planning a busy 2025. This will be their only headlining show for the rest of the year, and we’re pumped to see the nine-piece take the stage. They released their new single, “Ex and the City,” yesterday.
If you buy a ticket to the show, we’re offering a special subscription offer that’s more than half off. So click play on the YouTube video below, head here to buy a ticket, subscribe, and come party with all of us on September 27.
