From Fall 2024

Founded in 1910, Kings Highway originally housed workers who were building properties in neighboring Winnetka Heights. What makes Kings Highway unique today, realtor T.J. Edmond says, is its mix of single-family homes and what’s called the “missing middle”—small multifamily structures, like duplexes and historic apartment buildings with only a handful of units.
Over the years, the neighborhood—which became a conservation district in 1988—was reputed for its Craftsman homes. However, “It’s a beautiful mix of neighbors and a beautiful mix of architecture,” Edmond says. Protected styles here also include Prairie and Tudor Revival, the classification of this home on Clinton Avenue.
The house has many of the Tudoresque features that were popular when it was built in 1925, including a bell-curve eave, arches, and stained-glass windows, with a few French Colonial and Edwardian details, too. While some might think the home would fit better in the Tudor-rich Kessler Park, it perfectly suits the eclectic mix that is Kings Highway, Edmond says.
