Big Tex says to leave your guns at home.

The State Fair of Texas is banning weapons this year (including guns) unless you are an active or retired cop. The fair unveiled its new safety measures following a shooting last year that injured at least one person and sent fairgoers running for cover. Previously, licensed gun owners were allowed to bring in concealed firearms.

The new safety measures also include a new bag policy, redesigned entries with new signage, a new command center to oversee safety and other operations 24 hours a day (run by recently retired director of Dallas’ Office of Emergency Management Rocky Vaz), and wayfinding signs to help attendees find their cars again after a full day at Fair Park.
