Garland is getting a pro soccer team.
USL Dallas, which I presume will eventually be named something else, will join the United Soccer League’s USL Championship for the 2027 season. If the USL sounds familiar, that’s because newly established Dallas Trinity FC competes in its women’s Super League, which is one of two leagues at the highest level of domestic competition on the women’s side. The USL Championship, on the other hand, sits one rung below Major League Soccer on the men’s side. So you’re still going to Frisco to see the best men’s soccer in the country. But Garland is an interesting spot for a new team, and per the press release, co-founders Matt Valentine and Sam Morton have a rich guy meet-cute story of becoming pals on a local soccer field as kids.
We’ll see how it shakes out in three years. And whether Valentine and Morton adopt Tim Rogers’ very contextual suggestion to call the team the Zombies.
